What Are the Symptoms of Athlete’s Foot?

Tuesday, 24 August 2021 00:00 Written by

One of the most common symptoms that can accompany athlete's foot is the peeling of skin between the toes and on the bottom of the feet. It is caused by a fungal infection that can enter the body through tiny cracks in the skin of the feet. This fungus thrives in warm and moist environments, which can include public swimming pools, locker rooms, and surrounding areas. It is considered to be contagious, and wearing appropriate shoes while in these areas may be instrumental in preventing the spread of athlete's foot. Additional symptoms of this uncomfortable condition can consist of itchy feet, and in severe cases, small blisters may form. Relief may be found when the feet are washed and dried thoroughly and an antifungal powder is used. It is suggested that patients who have athlete’s foot are under the care of a podiatrist, who can effectively diagnose and treat this condition.

Athlete’s foot is an inconvenient condition that can be easily reduced with the proper treatment. If you have any concerns about your feet and ankles, contact Dr. Catherine J. Minnick from Illinois.  Our doctor will treat your foot and ankle needs.
